Everyone in the country has their favorite local farm stand or food coop. Racine's on Route 8, just behind Goodwill between Adams and North Adams is just terrific. Some things like the zuccini and cukes have gone by, but the corn is right at the peak of perfection now through the first frost. It's just five bucks for a dozen ears of Silver King or Butter and Sugar. Actually more like 14 ears, or a farmer's dozen. You don't have to cook it. Just eat it raw. So sweet. We either steam it for about three minutes or wrap it in foil and turn it on the grill. We grilled everything this summer from huge zuccinis big as baseball bats, dense and fleshy, to eggplants grilled till they collapse and then concocted into Astrid's baba ganoosh in the blender with tahini, olive oil, garlic and lemon juice. Yum. Our garden was kind of punk, too much rain not enough sun, but Racine's tomatoes, as usual, were incredible. The Racines live in a big old Victorian house and another branch of the family resides in a smaller home. One sells the corn and cukes and the other everything else. Racine's is one of the best treats of the summer. Now through the end of September. Let's hear about your favorite farm stand.
