Venice Album
The Most Photographed City in the World
By: Charles Giuliano - Jan 13, 2008
There was little sun and mostly rain during our week in Venice last fall. So we rarely caught glimpses of the famous Venetian light that has inspired artists down through the centuries. The views or vedutes of Venice are so thoroughly recorded that one despairs of the notion of originality. The subject is so picturesque that one must resist the temptation to further romanticise what is already familiar. But the shots of the Grand Canal and its gondolas, as well as the handsome gondoliers are somewhat inevitable. The beggars and pedelers, street singers, and thieves are almost as ubiquitous. As well as shops and vendors selling exotic blown glass, carnival masks and clown hats. So hopefully not being overly predictable and enervating here are some parting shots as we move on with our continuing coverage of travel in Northern Italy.
