Bouillabaisse
Soup by the Sea
By: Charles Giuliano - Feb 26, 2015
Bouillabaisse
From Nice
Rented small car
Stick shift
Unlike Dad’s Cadillac
We had to push it
Backing up
Meandering along
Riviera
Turned off at
Villefranche-sur-Mer
Tiny, quaint
Village by the sea
Still vivid
Half century later
Rustic restaurant
Edge of the harbor
Specialty of the house
Bouillabaisse
Rich stock
Brimming with fish
Stained with saffron
Lots of prawns
Piping hot
Scorching to
Our American taste
Too much so
Abandoned
Perhaps wisely
Wildly enthusiastic
The True Sicilian
Devoured his
Then ours
Next few days
Payback
Twice burned
Torched esophagus
Utter agony
Many times since
Ordered the dish
Always disappointing
Toned down
Never again
That village soup
So long ago
