Is Silence Golden

After the Picasso Museum
Blue period Red town
Sunday morning Barcelona
When we were younger
Exploring neighborhood
We found a café
The kind where
Locals go to dine
Just fine with us
So wonderful
Just to be alive
Out of our heads
Insane to be in Spain
We ordered paella
Wine with brunch
As natives do
Intoxicated and entertained
We had a hunch
Noticed older couple
Suave but reserved
Not being obvious
As we observed
Quite oddly intrigued
They never spoke
Not even a word
Seemed to look
Past each other
The meal consumed
Measure for measure
At their leisure
Utter silent
Still as a pond
Scenes from a marriage
The Italian Passeggiata
An afternoon stroll
Marido y esposa
With an olé
But nothing to say
Wondered if we would
Be like that one day
Hardly the case
No worries
We chatter away
Pride of place
