If I become an herbarium–
daisies, nettle, amaranthus, wisteria–
That will be a legacy
Made for every pocket and outstretched hand.
Petals–the favorite thing
Of every child and homemaker.
From years of sensitivity to ecology,
The scrapbooker knows which are too sore to touch.
And which make art.
Only once can the gardener undo
Her decision to uproot these growths
Or like my mother, preserve them after the wedding reception.
Nature defies those who are sinister–
You will be pushing up daisies.
Though no one eulogizes you because
You feinted all of your overtures.
