Lazarus

Time After Time

By: - Mar 17, 2016

Lazarus

Fine sendoff
Fragrant flowers
Ancient rituals
Burnt offerings
Copious libations
Eloquent eulogies
Sobbing loved ones
Widow bent low
Inconsolable
Mary took pity
He entered the crypt
Pulled back the shroud
Lazarus emerged
Blinded by
Light of day
That rarest journey
Dark land crossed over
From which
No traveler returns
Wild jubilation
They danced for joy
Feast and celebration
Back home at dawn
Time passed
Symptoms returned
Filled with melancholy
Too weak to work
Called back
From eternal rest
Wasted away
Yet again
Sallow flesh
Sinking deeper
Cursed her
Seeming good deed
Miracle
A second time
Soon dead
Modest burial
Few attended
No tears shed
Just eternity
Instead
