Swan Lake

Swan Lake
Am I a Swan
The poet asks absurdly
A thing of feathers
Attached to wings
Gliding over the lake
Clear and cool
The silvered moon
Seen through branches
Spidered with serenity
Spun web of
Your fevered dream
Long graceful neck
Flexed and florid
Full scented
From lilac trees
Ringed round shore
Petals on water
Shedding spring
Seasoned transition
Grace and beauty
Aspired to full bore
A cannon shot
Blasting sentiment
Ruffled feathers
Puff and fluff
Smothering you
Fairest dear reader
With bloody guts
A prince leaps
Mounting the air
Piercing the swan
Pas de deux
Egging on
Just before dawn
Casper and Pollux
The hunter’s blast
Smashes serenity
Where first light
Kills our dreams
Corpse of reverie
Twisting on shore
Twitching death
Avian loved one
That balletic lake
Laced with blood
Rendered carnadined
By your folly
Absurd conceit
Indeed to ever
Be a swan
Come and gone
By dawn’s
Harsh light
