Spring Awakening
Provincetown in Early April
By: Charles Giuliano - Apr 05, 2017
Spring Awakening
Through snow and sleet
Narrow streets
Still asleep
Not a soul in sight
Nights in Provincetown
Still shuttered
No hint of summer’s mayhem
Fishing village
Transformed to Sodom
For some who come
Seeking sin and pleasure
Enjoying the weather
Early April
Hunkered down
Ocean strolls
Brisk on the beach
Hint of what was
When artists first came
Some from Paris
Americans abroad
Gay and bohemian
During the first war
Back home from
Over there
Dread of Flanders Field
Where dead piled up
Starving pioneers
Saving money for paints
They lived on fish
Cheap on the dock
Waded for clams
Oysters by the bucket
Fisherman’s stew
Hearty kale and
Linguica for tasty
Portuguese soup
Tip of Cape Cod
Last stop to Europe
From here to there
Daily reflections
Time and tide
Waiting for Lefty
Where no news
Is good news
Riding out
The horror
Digging tunnels
Castles in the sand
