Richard Meier Exhibition at Provincetown Art Association and Museum
Lecture and Reception with the Architect June 6

The Norman Mailer Writers Colony and the Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM) announce an exhibit, reception and dinner with the world-renowned architect, Pritzker Laureate Richard Meier for the benefit of both non-profit organizations.
On June 6th, 2009, Richard Meier will discuss his work during a cocktail reception at PAAM, (460 Commercial Street) followed by a private dinner at the Norman Mailer home, both events supported by Taschen Books and catered by Victor Depoalo and Mike Fennelly of Victor's Restaurant. On May 29th, 2009, the week before the reception and dinner, the public exhibit of Mr. Meier's sketches, drawings, collages and scale models will open at the museum.
In 1984, at the age of 49, Mr. Meier was the youngest architect to be awarded architecture's highest measure of excellence, The Pritzker Prize. Soon after, he designed one of the twentieth century's most important structures, the one-billion dollar art complex known as the Getty Center in Los Angeles. Internationally renowned, Mr. Meier has been awarded several citations and medals for his designs of private homes, apartment buildings and institutions. In 1995 he became a Fellow to the American Academy of the Arts and in 1997 the American Institute of Architects awarded him the Gold Medal.
The exhibit at PAAM will feature selections from Mr. Meier's drawings, sketches, collages and scale models of his building designs, such as the Getty Center in Los Angeles; the Jubilee Church; The High Museum of Art in Atlanta and the proposed World Trade Center in New York, to name but a few of his stunning achievements. The exhibit is open to the public and admission is seven dollars, free to PAAM members.
To honor Norman Mailer's support and mentoring of emerging writers, the Colony will present the first, "Norman Mailer Award" to a Cape Cod writer. Salvatore Scibona, who recently published his first novel, The End, to outstanding critical acclaim will receive the Mailer Award for Exceptional Writing. That same evening the Provincetown Art Association and Museum will recognize Richard Meier for his continuing contribution to world architecture.
Those wishing to attend these events are offered two levels of tax deductable giving for the events of June 6. A gift of one hundred dollars ($125) provides for an invitation to the private cocktail reception and the artist's talk at the Museum. A gift of twelve-hundred dollars ($1,250) includes the private cocktail reception and the artist's talk at the Museum, a signed copy of, Richard Meier and Partners Complete Works—1963-2008 ($150.00 value), published by Taschen Books and an invitation to the Richard Meier private dinner for 50 guests at the Norman Mailer home with a tour of the house/writing studio, in addition to an engraved brick with the donor's name permanently placed on the grounds of the Mailer home.
