Summer of Love
Rescue of a Runaway
By: Charles Giuliano - Apr 25, 2015
Summer of Love
In my doorway
Lower East Side
She staggered by
Dazed Flower Child
Runway
Hungry and scared
Dark finger marks
On her neck
Defiled, ashamed
But escaped
No questions asked
Trusting a stranger
Took her in
Shelter and comfort
Walked to Polish deli
Tompkins Square Park
Fed her pirogi
Talked softly calmly
Slept soundly
Next day
Payphone
Begged her to call home
Frantic family
Fearing their anger
Bus ticket
Back to America
Rescue
From a walk
On the wild side
