A Hard Rein
Writing a poem is preferable to making a bed, dusting getting ready for inspection
Anticipating the guests – their needs and those of the manor lord
It’s a hard rein as queen of everything, counting, tallying, figuring,
Watching the sun to shade, the flies and bees, indoor birds looking for adventure out a door left open
It’s cold - too hot another blanket – lights, windows, action
Stale bowels that won’t move – a remedy so simple
Take with a glass of water – take up a glass with water
No, not the convenient blue cup just there
His lord’s teeth had the last laugh as you drank away the foam.
The queen slept well – the jester paid
While the grass seed sprouted that cool April night
