$75 Season Lawn Pass for Berkshire Residents

Tanglewood, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this season, June 22-September 2, is offering a number of ticket programs designed to give visitors and Berkshire residents a wide variety of options when planning their visit to the BSO’s summer home. Kripalu and the Clark Art Institute are each teaming up with the BSO this summer to offer three new ticket deals showcasing a variety of different Berkshire summer attractions.
Other ticket deals and programs include free tickets to children and young adults 17 and under and discounted tickets for students 18 and over; the Family Concert on August 25, which costs $10 for adults and is free for children and young adults under 17; $10-$30 reserved-seating Saturday Morning Rehearsals; and the Grass Pass, offering discounted lawn admission to all classical concerts during the 75th anniversary season. Tanglewood also offers year-round Berkshire residents a special Berkshire Resident Season Lawn Pass for $75, offering discounted lawn admission to classical concerts during the 2012 Tanglewood season. Student Discounts
For students 18 and over, Tanglewood offers 50% discounts on lawn tickets for Friday-evening BSO concerts. Students can obtain a lawn ticket by presenting a valid student ID at the Box Office on the night of the performance.
Family Concert, August 25
On August 25, 2012, Tanglewood will present its annual Family Concert featuring returning artists Classical Tangent. Made up of musicians from the BSO, Berklee College of Music faculty, and other professional organizations, Classical Tangent is a lively group that explores Folk music from around the world. Tickets for the Family Concert are free for children aged 17 and under and $10 for each adult and can be purchased at the Tanglewood Box Office, online at www.tanglewood.org or through SymphonyCharge at 888-266-1200.
Tanglewood and Clark Art Institute Offer Two New Ticket Deals
The Clark Art Institute and Tanglewood will offer two ticket deals this summer. The first, for $50, includes two Tanglewood lawn tickets for any classical concert and two Clark admissions valid through October 21, 2012. Tickets for the Clark/Tanglewood ticket package can be purchased at the Tanglewood Box Office, online at www.tanglewood.org, or through SymphonyCharge at 888-266-1200.
The second deal, for $100, includes a pre-concert buffet dinner at Highwood Supper Club, followed by the Silk Road Ensemble concert with Yo-Yo Ma in Ozawa Hall on Friday, June 22, or Sunday, June 24. This ticket deal is thematically paired with the Clark’s special exhibition called “Unearthed: Recent Archaeological Discoveries from Northern China,” which showcases a selection of objects from sites along the Silk Road that have never been exhibited outside of China. Tanglewood and Norman Rockwell Museum Ticket Package
Tanglewood and Norman Rockwell Museum are collaborating this summer to offer a $50 ticket package that allows visitors to experience the two institutions at a discounted price. The $50 packages include two lawn tickets to Tanglewood classical concerts (priced between $19-21 each) and two tickets for admission to Norman Rockwell Museum (normally priced at $16 each). With the Norman Rockwell Museum just four miles from the Tanglewood Main Gate, patrons can visit both places in one day or spread the visits out over the summer. Tanglewood and Kripalu Ticket Partnership
A ticket partnership between Tanglewood and the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health will take place from July 3-6, in conjunction with a Kripalu workshop called “All Together Singing: Creative Ways to Make and Listen to Music with Your Family,” with acclaimed musicians Nerissa and Katryna Nields. In this Kripalu program, families develop their own Family Musical Canon, sing in harmony, and make instruments together, as well as embark on a July 4 outing to Tanglewood to enjoy the annual favorite James Taylor concert, followed by fireworks. Saturday Morning Rehearsals/Pre-Rehearsal Talks
Saturday Morning Rehearsals take place at 10:30 a.m. throughout the Tanglewood season. Rehearsals provide an inside view of the final preparations before a performance, and give patrons an opportunity to see the conductor, soloists, and orchestra work together in an informal setting, as well as learn more about the program through pre-rehearsal talks. The pre-rehearsal talks, which begin at 9:30 a.m., are presented by Marc Mandel, Director of Program Publications, and Robert Kirzinger, Assistant Director of Program Publications—Editorial. Saturday Morning Rehearsal Shed seats are reserved/ticketed seating only. Grass Pass
The Tanglewood Grass Pass allows patrons lawn admission to all classical concerts that take place during the 2012 Tanglewood season, including 22 Boston Symphony Orchestra concerts, 3 Boston Pops Concerts, Tanglewood on Parade on August 7, and performances by cellist Yo-Yo Ma, violinists Anne-Sophie Mutter, Joshua Bell, Gil Shaham, and Augustin Hadelich, and pianists Gerhard Oppitz, Emanuel Ax, and Yefim Bronfman. The Grass Pass, priced at $200, is a non-transferable photo ID pass that needs to be purchased in person at the Tanglewood Box Office. Patrons can purchase the Grass Pass at the Tanglewood Main Gate Box Office beginning June 21.
Lawn Pass Books
Lawn Pass Books, which include 11 undated lawn tickets, provide patrons flexibility when planning which concerts to attend through out the summer. The tickets are valid for all regular and specially priced BSO concerts and Pops concerts in the Koussevitzky Music Shed and Ozawa Hall, providing a wide range of concert experiences. Lawn Pass books are available for $180 through June 22, and $190 after June 22. Lawn tickets are individually priced from $9-30.
Berkshire Resident Season Lawn Pass
The $75 Berkshire Resident Season Lawn Pass can be purchased by year-round Berkshire County residents of Massachusetts, and allows lawn admission to all classical concerts that take place during the 2012 Tanglewood season. Patrons can purchase this photo ID pass at the Tanglewood Main Gate Box Office beginning June 21 with a valid Massachusetts license.
Blackout dates for all ticket deals include Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor (June 30), Diana Krall (June 23), James Taylor (July 2, 3, and 4), Train (August 31), and any other Popular Artist event. For Popular Artists concerts, free lawn tickets are only available for children under age 2.
HIGHLIGHTS OF TANGLEWOOD 2012
Tanglewood’s 75th anniversary season will present a spectacular lineup of musical guests. While honoring legendary moments from the festival’s rich tradition of presenting summertime concerts since 1937, the anniversary season will also look to the future with eight world premieres and new media initiatives including international radio broadcasts and major new streaming offers free to a worldwide audience.
Highlights include a gala celebration with appearances by John Williams, Keith Lockhart, Andris Nelsons, James Taylor, Yo-Yo Ma, Peter Serkin, and Anne-Sophie Mutter, performing with the BSO, Boston Pops, and Tanglewood Music Center Orchestras (July 14), a special John Williams 80th Birthday Celebration (August 18), an all-Beethoven (BSO opener on July 6) and an all-Wagner program (July 21), replicating two programs from Tanglewood’s first season in 1937, and eight world premiere performances.
The 75th anniversary season will also present James Taylor (July 2, 3, 4), Yo-Yo Ma with his Silk Road Ensemble (June 22 and 24); Joshua Bell (July 7); Jean-Yves Thibaudet (August 5); Mark Morris Dance Group (June 28 and 29); and Chris Botti (August 5). Bernadette Peters (July 8) as well as Maureen McGovern and Brian Stokes Mitchell (August 24), make welcome returns with the Boston Pops.
In addition to the star-studded gala concerts and historically resonant programming, Tanglewood’s 75th Anniversary will reach out to a worldwide audience by way of international radio broadcasts; an extraordinary offer of 75 Free Digital Streams, available for purchase after a 24 hour free period; as well as free digital streams of master classes and concerts by the Fellows of the Tanglewood Music Center (TMC), the BSO’s renowned summer music academy for the advanced training of young professional-caliber musicians.
Continuing the BSO’s rich tradition of marking special anniversaries with the commissioning of new music, the Tanglewood 75TH Anniversary Season will also showcase the world premieres of eight new works, many by composers who have a strong connection with Tanglewood and the BSO, including Michael Gandolfi, John Harbison, André Previn, Gunther Schuller, Edgar Meyer, as well as composers new to the BSO and its audiences.
The 75th season will bring the planting of 75 new trees to the Tanglewood campus enhancing what is already considered one of the most beautiful festival grounds anywhere in the world. The season will also be celebrated with a specially commissioned commemorative poster/stamp.

Regular season ticket prices range from $9-$117; non-benefactor tickets to the July 14 Gala Anniversary Concert are priced from $30 to $250. Tickets for Saturday Morning Rehearsals range from $10-$30. All ticket prices include a $1 Tanglewood grounds maintenance fee.
