Carole Bufford - You Don’t Own Me: The Fearless Females of the 1960s. BSC Youth Theatre BYE BYE BIRDIE. Book by Michael Stewart, lyrics by Lee Adams and music by Charles Strouse, Directed and choreographed by Julianne Katz (Crazy For You at Lincoln Center, Assistant Choreographer). Set in the height of rock ‘n’ roll, Bye, Bye, Birdie takes place in Sweet Apple, Ohio, where hip-thrusting music heartthrob Conrad Birdie is scheduled to give a lucky Sweet Apple teen “One Last Kiss” before being drafted into the Army. BUTTERFLIES. World Premiere reading of the new musical, Butterflies, with a book and lyrics by Kate Chadwick and music by Josh Freilich, and directed by Tony Award nominee Graciela Daniele (The Visit). Butterflies is the story of Jessica, a former dancer who has been shaped by the disciplined world of ballet, and her complex relationship with her teacher, Miss Yvonne. When the adult Jessica learns of Miss Yvonne’s death, she is sent into a tailspin of memory, recalling her dreams, her friendships, the performances, the competition, and the female role models that made her who she is. MICHELE LEE: Nobody Does It Like Me…The Music of Cy Coleman. Straight from Broadway’s Wicked, the multiple Emmy and Tony-nominated Michele Lee spotlights the music of Cy Coleman (Sweet Charity, Barnum and City of Angels). Including songs from their musical Seesaw, Ms. Lee infuses the evening with stories that tickle the funny bone to ballads that cut deep into the soul.  With music director Ron Abel, it's easy to see how “Nobody Does It Like” Michele Lee. After many summers of blowing the roof off of our cabaret, Joe Iconis and his tribe of musical theater misfits return to the Mainstage for a special one-night-only concert— Joe Iconis and Family TAKE OVER!  These musical mavericks will make it clear why The New York Times called them “The Future of Musical Theatre” with songs about anything and everything that makes you laugh, cry, scream, or drink. GASLIGHT (ANGEL STREET) by Patrick Hamilton. Directed by Louisa Proske (BSC’s peerless). Performances: Wednesday and Thursday at 7pm; Friday and Saturday at 8pm; Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 3pm. Opening night October 8, 2017. Gaslight, also called Angel Street, and made into a movie starring Ingrid Bergman, is one of the greatest psychological thrillers of all times. It tells the story of Mr. Manningham, a suavely handsome man, who is slowly driving his gentle, devoted wife Bella to the brink of insanity with seemingly overwhelming kindness while sowing seeds of doubt, memory loss and misperceptions.
