Lake Poem

In our vows
ER at midnight
Far too often
Being there
For each other
Every eight weeks
Eye appointment
She talks German
With young doctor Stiffer
Look up, look down
Hold still
Quick shot
See you in July
The 99 for lunch
Steak and turkey tips
She in shades
How does it feel
It hurts as usual
Walk on by
A drive home
Such a glorious day
Earth bursting
Fresh green on trees
Azalea and magnolias
Swaths of color
Brilliant sun
Clear bright light
Stop by the lake
She said first
Since fall foliage
Cement bench
Near boat launch
Diamonds dancing
On rippled water
She took a stroll
Gentle breeze
How great it feels
To be free at last
Celebrating new season
We filled our lungs
Hearts and minds
Gulping gasps
Though just weather
As the Monk says
Never long enough
Tomorrow we leave
Week in Gloucester
Fish every day
Gorge on cataplanas
The fabulous Azorean
Comparing fish chowder
Heaping bowls
Causeway and Charlies
Sights and smells
Salt air in my blood
Saline solution
For what ails you
A native sun
Band on the run
All shine on
Pip in Annisquam
First trip in three years
Time doesn’t fly
When you’re not
Having fun
The sun also rises
For those who wait
Even in heart of darkness
The gloom has
Room of one’s own
Better though to
Not be there
