Eyeless in Gaza

Eyeless in Gaza
It was a serene dusk
Streaks of crimson
Splashed on water
Surface tension
Mirrored moment
He inhaled the sublime
A Caspar David Friedrich
Painting of a monk
Illuminated by the moon
Sobbing romanticism
Gasped before a war
Consumes all poetry
Battered by cannon balls
Smashed to smithereens
Orgy of death
Ranks of youth
Best and finest
Cut down by a scythe
Grim harvest of hate
For God and country
Shameless sham
Eyeless in Gaza
Where press is banned
None to document
Daily atrocities
Indeed a genocide
Crimes against humanity
Eye for an eye
There is no right
To tally a wrong
The prince in tights
Leaps in the air
Graceful pas de deux
Stabbed the swan
Disemboweled her
Dumped the corpse
Blood soaked feathers
Senseless slaughter
Curse God and die
Rotting in the water
Once serene pond
Now red with blood
There can be no love
In times of war
