With platitudes
We greet each other
Lacking sincerity
Lives measured
Spoons of sugar
In cups of tea
How are you
Nobody wants to know
Not really
About our aches and pains
Thoughts on the cosmos
Reasonable I say
To the waiter and clerk
Cocktail conversations
Waiting for their reaction
The unexpected
Occasional laugh
Reasonable
What’s that
At times
Meaning
Not good or bad
Coping best I can
Thanks for asking
Response to which
I hear you
Right on bro
Have a nice day
Or the more terse
Have a good one
A good what I ask
As if anyone
Gives a damn
