Josephine
Was clever at pranks
Mostly on mean maids
Summers in Annisquam
Mom and Dad working
Visiting on weekends
Weekly chores
Cutting the vast lawn
Daunting and steep
For an allowance
Taking a date to the movies
By bus and back
To Gloucester
Old hand mower
Nothing fancy
Tough to push
Sweating in the sun
Called me in for lunch
Never happened before
With iced tea
Asked what it was
Peanut butter sandwich
Just good old PB&J
She smiled sweetly
Took a bite and gasped
This tastes like shit
It was
Rabbit turds mixed with mayo
Clever but nasty
Never understood why
