Courthouse

Sit in the sun
above the unruffled harbor
on a shallow concrete step
belly on thigh on cheery tights
sandalled feet outstretching.

Early morning sweatshirts are too hot
this gay October I can't enjoy
with its imperative:
long shiny benches
lack of air lack of delight.

The woman in chained ankles
was discovered in the ceiling
during her trip to the ladies.'

Such a pretty scene
for airless restriction.
