Dad

Dad

Blueberry pancakes
Festive breakfast
Cards and bottle of Scotch
Presents from Astrid
Father’s Day
Though a step removed
Girls call me Opa
Asked how I met Elton John
That seemed amusing
They saw the film
Rocket Man zoomed through
Deep dark memories
Oddly no thoughts
This special day
Of my own dad
Who died at 80
That seemed so old
Fork in the road
As in fork you
Deadline so to speak
In every sense
Creeping up on me
Less than half a year
Still in my 70’s
You make me feel so young
October 25 to be precise
If you really want to know
Nowhere else to go
Scorpio and all that crap
Hocus pocus hooey
What’s your sign man
Hit on your joint
Not much matters
Living in time of slime
Slogging through sludge
It’s been fun though
What a friggin’ blast
War for the roses
By any other name so sweet
Dad was ok in his way
Loved him more than
Actually liked him
A man of genius
Better than me
In every way
Not that it matters much
Nobody keeping score
Not now anymore
Up to our necks
Wallowing in mediocrity
We hunker down in
Bomb craters
Stranded in no man’s land
What are the odds
Like lightning
Hitting the same spot again
Frozen till dawn
With bloke I shot
Middle of the night
Hearing his grim
Shake rattle and roll
How to get out of this mess
Break for the woods
Legs ain’t that good
More crawl than run
Up above dark clouds
Looks like rain
Here’s to you
Dear old dad
Same time next year
Say hi to mom
