Half-life

Things Fall Apart

Half-life

Measure of disintegration
Radioactive materials
What is whole
Fails to remain so
A matter of time
Inevitable entropy
From seconds to centuries
Perhaps eons and eons
Mostly about particles
Though humans as well
Talking you and me pal
Better to have half-life
Than no life at all
Reach the tipping point
Center of gravity
When things fall apart
Actuary charts for longevity
Law of averages
Stretching limited resources
What’s my worth at 90
Should I buy that car
Take an expensive vacation
Or save for endgame
What are the odds
When quality of life
Winds down faster
Fuel rods spent
No more energy
What of hereafter
Thoughts of legacy
Evil we do recalled
We all make mistakes
Good deeds soon forgotten
How things change
Not as many weddings
Ironic seconds and thirds
Ever fewer friends
Hard to make new ones
More and more funerals
Three I just skipped
Too far away
Won’t be at mine
Poetic justice in that
Not good at grieving
All the world’s a stage
Slip sliding away
Leaving the art
As our curtain call
Not hearing Standing O
Too soon muffled
In vastness of space
Our family and friends
Spirits like flickering stars
Lighting the night sky
Mom on a galaxy
Lobster and martini
Like our last memory
So far far away
Will you remember me
We sleep perhaps to dream
Until then let’s have lunch
So much yet to do and say
I’m still here man
Waiting on the day
