On the Fourth of July
Knee high they say
In corn ready for harvest
End of the month
Into the first frost
With real tomatoes
Dips in the pond
Beer and reefer
Friends and neighbors
This time though
More like deep in shit
Fireworks cancelled
Supply chain issues
More fizzle than sizzle
Even 1812 Overture
Why play Rusky tune
Just not right
What with Ukraine
Supposed to be about
Freedom and liberty
Founding of democracy
However flawed it be
Shining beacon
Land of the free
Home of the brave
Now so much less so
An utter mockery
All I believe in
Decades of progress
Fought and died for
Little Rock and Selma
In a foul fell swoop
Back to the 1950s
When rock was young
Drove my Chevy to the Levee
Friend who told me
