Clambake on Lighthouse Beach

Relatively new to
Annisquam in the ‘50s
Quiet Water in Algonquin
Upscale summers
Yacht Club picnic
Indian style clambake
Light House Beach
Started that morning
Roaring fire
Stones added
Splitting with heat
Seaweed harvested
Piled on in thick layers
Then lobsters
Mesh sacks of steamers
Corn and potatoes
More seaweed
Covered with wet sand
Packed down
Forming a mound
Kiln actually
Simmered till dusk
Sand brushed off
Shell fish dug out
Served with butter
Feast by the shore
High tide of memory
