Berkshire Roads Less Travelled

Now July
Just past no celebration
Bootleg fireworks
From our loft window
Just a glimmer
Not like blazing shimmer
From our roof deck
East Boston days
Sky all ablaze
Crackle and Pops
Hatched in a Shell
Down by the Charles
Love that dirty water
Enduring hard times
Nothing more beautiful
Than a Berkshire summer
Taking Sunday drives
Even Saturdays
Doubled down
Twice as much fun
Trying different routes
Exploring round lakes
Dense with cottages
Glimpses of water
Sliced vistas
Proud to be Americans
Getting away from hate
Passing a grid of flags
Remembering the fallen
Along the road
Hither and yon
Me and the Mrs.
Just us chickens
Sunshine and smiles
Windows open
Catching the breeze
Too early for corn
Month till tomatoes
Then come and gone
All too brief
Enduring precious solitude
During pandemic of grief
Together in our car
Sharing sight and sound
Nobody else around
Over hill and dale
Lunch at a golf course
Under an umbrella
Crescent of shade
Edge of paradise
Mountains and greens
Pure and pristine
Waitress just graduated
Greylock High School
New to the job
It’s a salad she said
Asked to describe
Not much on details
More than just social distance
A generation gap perhaps
Kind of funny
Amusing thoughts of
When we were young
My job at the Yacht Club
Where Yankees never tip
Enjoying our Sunday trip
Planning the next one
Perhaps round Stockbridge Bowl
Great Barrington or Sheffield
So many detours
From here to forever
Many more roads
Less traveled
Leaving a trail of tears
During this plague year
