Still Crazy After All These Years
By: Charles Giuliano - Jul 13, 2016
Coda
Paul Simon
Now 74
More or less my age
A year younger
Has retired
No more ideas
He says
Latest album
Stranger to Stranger
His last
Bosh humbug
There is no end
For artists
Not like my Dad
A surgeon who
Withered away
Nothing left to say
Blade packed away
Late works
So often interesting
Deaf Beethoven and Goya
Haunting Ninth
He never heard
Those riveting
Black Paintings
In the Prado
Heat-oppressed brain
Mad with pain
Monet at Giverny
All but blind
As were
Degas and Cassatt
What is that spirit
So charged to
Carry on
Into the beyond
So Paul you wimp
Get back to it
Shoot some hoops
Julio in the schoolyard
The despair
Very emptiness
Like Bowie’s
Lazarus
Is the message
Speak to us
Your peers deserve
Respect for the rarity
That greatest gift
Art itself
Which has no meaning
Beyond its being
And nothingness
Anything less is
Utter crap
