The Fate of Water
Dune and Gloom

THE FATE OF WATER
Now I am old a grammar of time
would cite me
where hilltop and stream
delete me.
Ask me where hill and stream
and meadow rhyme
with sand for sand delights me
and pure syntax
sand
and lime.
Itself myself contract to sand.
O translate me my years
their new reader,
and when
I consider
the sun flowing
or the fate of water
that I am old deserts praise.
