Remington
The Write Stuff
By: Charles Giuliano - Jul 27, 2015
Remington
Young artist
No plans for anything else
What I was good at
So it seemed at the time
Visiting the artist
Bruce ConnerThen living with
Leary and Alpert
At IFIF
Exploring LSD
55 Kenwood Avenue
In Newton
His studio in the basement
Collages and combines
Wax and nylon stockings
Ersatz cobwebs
Ghoulish figures
Like Norman Bates
Would make
Hauled from Kansas, California
And Mexico
Screened collaged A Movie
Ray Charles and The Bomb
Scents of Dr. Strangelove
Gave him a ream of paper
Long and narrow
For woodcuts
He came out with an
Old Remington typewriter
But I’m an artist I said
No use for it but thanks
He departed in silence
Came back with a
Baseball bat
Busted it to smithereens
Like Pete Townsend
Demolishing a guitar
After a set by The Who
Dark omen shattered me
Several years later
303 East Eleventh Street
No phone
Jim Jacobs fell by
Gave me a typewriter
Just like that other one
An offer I could not refuse
Began writing
Letters at first
Then for 57th Street Review
Arts Magazine
Three bucks to cover a gallery
Five bucks for museums
Now mostly
For nothing
