Tree or Not to Be
Measured Rings of Time
By: Charles Giuliano - Aug 07, 2019
Tree or Not to Be
Would that I
Could be a tree
Standing straight and tall
For all the world to see
Deeply rooted
Branching out
All kinds of weather
Season after season
Our great outdoors
Undaunted through
Wind, rain, or sleet
Enduing storms
Dead of fierce winter
No words or whisper
Fear or whimper
Still and silent
Save whistling wind
Shimmer and shake
Whiplashed saplings
Howls of night
Fox in the forest
Shrieks of crows
Nature’s organic poetry
Immune to whims
Fraught ebb and flow
Of human condition
Adding rings
Incremental growth
Girth inch by inch
Measure for measure
Softening horizons
Snow capped ridge
Flicks of an artist’s brush
Legendary landscape painters
Timeless portraits
Birch, oak and spruce
Proud to be a tree
Murmuring pines and hemlock
Native Americans
Just as should be
From sea to shining sea
