Mr. B. B.
Ain't Nothin but a Hound Dog
By: Charles Giuliano - Aug 10, 2015
Mr. B. B.
Stray dog
Mostly shepherd mix
Hopped on the T
Off at Arlington
Followed the crowd
To The Tea Party
Managed by Steve Nelson
Back in ‘68
That night blues man
B. B. King
Curled up for a snooze
After the set
Wandered into the dressing room
Nuzzled the musician
Soul brothers
Steve took him home
Named him Mr. B. B.
Came to know all the haunts
Including my basement crib
Murder building
Harvard Square
Up to open the door
B. B. racing past us
Knowing his spot
Curled up in the kitchen
As true a friend as Steve himself
So content when visiting
Dog was mostly human
Street wise and insightful
Glad to hang with hipsters
Hell hounds on the run
Finally old and worn down
Riddled with disease
Slow on the move
Feeling too much pain
While Steve and Jan were out
That night
Bolted through an open window
Knowing when to check out
On his own terms
Paws for memories
