Williamstown Theatre Festival

Plans for 2027

By: - Oct 26, 2026

Throughout this year, the Board of Trustees has remained focused on moving Williamstown Theatre Festival forward, working closely with staff to plan for the Festival’s future, including the intention to return to programming in Williamstown in 2027.

We missed seeing you this summer. The absence of a Festival season was deeply felt by many: the audiences, the artists, and the local community that are part of the Festival’s ecosystem.

This period of reflection has brought renewed clarity about what matters most. You have shared your thoughts with us, and those conversations have informed our thinking about the Festival’s future.

Williamstown Theatre Festival exists to champion bold artistic work, support theatremakers as they hone their craft, and inspire multigenerational dialogue, all nurtured by deep roots in Williamstown and the Berkshires. Protecting those values means evolving how the Festival operates.

To carry these commitments forward, we are evolving the Festival’s institutional and artistic leadership. After nearly two years serving as Managing Director, Operations & Advancement, Kit Ingui has accepted the role of Executive Director. Kit will partner with the Board to guide the Festival’s next chapter, supporting the organization and deepening its relationships with artists, audiences, and the community.

Williamstown Theatre Festival is also engaging in a search for a new Artistic Director, led by TOC Arts Partners, a national search and advisory firm specializing in arts leadership. Jeremy O. Harris will continue his involvement with the Festival as Creative Collective Director, helping to bring together artists and thinkers from different disciplines to spark new ideas, collaborations, and creative work. Raphael Picciarelli, who has served as Managing Director, Strategy & Transformation, has transitioned to an advisory role.

As the Festival’s leadership evolves, plans for 2027 are actively taking shape, with additional details to come in the months ahead. We recognize that staying connected means communicating more consistently. You will hear from us more regularly as we share progress, introduce artists and ideas in development, highlight new partnerships and opportunities to gather, and provide updates on the organizational and artistic future of Williamstown Theatre Festival.

The Board believes wholeheartedly in Williamstown Theatre Festival, in the artists and audiences who have defined it, and in its ability to transform. Our responsibility now is to carry forward the spirit of artistic ambition, collaboration, and discovery that has defined Williamstown Theatre Festival for more than 70 years, and to build a model strong enough to sustain it.

Thank you for your continued support, patience, and belief in Williamstown Theatre Festival. We are grateful to have you with us as we build what comes next.
