Rude Intruder

Two If by Sea

Rude Intruder

Along the shore
Week on Cape Cod
Glorious day by the sea
Bright sunny sublime
More August than October
Walking the water’s edge
Busy sandpipers dawn to dusk
Working the waves
Such incredible speed
Constant pecking for food
Seagulls plopped on the sand
Blobs of feathers at rest
The young mottled but grown
Soaring above playing on the wind
Gliding more for sport
Like windsurfers riding puffy gusts
Paused to sit on plastic chair
Now abandoned private beach
Your offensive chain link fence
Defining an absurd claim
Marring my view
Pristine nature defiled
By your disgusting arrogance
Cottages closed off season
You were not there to shoo me off
Reveling in righteous hubris
Defiantly I sat gazing at my ocean
Diamonds of light flashing on waves
Sand sea and sky
The very tides belong to me
I am nature itself
Now and forever
From sea to shining sea
