Vermont Blown Away

Demonstration at Brattleboro Museum & Art Center November 21

By: - Nov 09, 2021

Members of the Vermont Glass Guild will participate in “Vermont Blown Away,” a free glass blowing demonstration presented in collaboration with the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center (BMAC) on Sunday, November 21, at 2 p.m. Register at brattleboromuseum.org to watch live via Zoom or in person at Fire Arts Vermont in Brattleboro. Space is limited for in-person attendance.

“Vermont Blown Away” will take the form of a friendly competition among teams of glass artists. Items from BMAC’s Study Collection of Ancient Objects will be selected to inspire three-person teams to create new glass sculptures. Teams will have 15 minutes to design a piece and one hour to complete it. These glass pieces will be auctioned off at a later date to raise money for the Vermont Glass Guild’s education fund.

This event is presented in connection with “Vermont Glass Guild: Inspired by the Past,” on view at BMAC through March 5, 2022. For the exhibit, Guild members created new works informed by objects from the Study Collection of Ancient Objects, which spans 4,000 years of history and dozens of cultures around the globe. The exhibit features glass art by Josh Bernbaum, Marta Bernbaum, Robert Dane, Robert DuGrenier, Zak Grace, David Leppla, Angela Nephew, Alyssa Oxley, Lori Pietropaoli, Matt Seasholtz, Chris Sherwin, Josh Simpson, and Randi Solin.

Founded in 1972, the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center presents rotating exhibits of contemporary art, complemented by lectures, artist talks, film screenings, and other public programs. BMAC is open Wednesday-Sunday, 10-4. Admission is on a “pay-as-you-wish” basis. Located in historic Union Station in downtown Brattleboro, at the intersection of Main Street and Routes 119 and 142, the Museum is wheelchair accessible. For more information, call 802-257-0124 or visit brattleboromuseum.org.

BMAC is supported in part by the Vermont Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional support is provided by Allen Bros. Oil, Brattleboro Savings & Loan, C&S Wholesale Grocers, the Four Columns Inn, Sam’s Outdoor Outfitters, and Whetstone Station Restaurant & Brewery.
