Achilles and Hector

Achilles and Hector
Ancient mosaic floor
That whore Helen
Wife of Menelaeus
Brother of Agamemnon
Abducted by pretty
Wimpy Paris
Beloved of Aphrodite
Granted his wish
For love of his life
Visiting prince of Troy
Cowering behind walls
A thousand Greek ships
Laid siege for ten years
The war wore on
Then decisive duel
Bravest of men
Achilles and Hector
Arrogant Greek prevailed
Dragged slain Trojan
Round the walls
Despicable spectacle
Insult added to injury
King Priam humbled
Visited the tent of
Brutal Achilles
Dined that night
Begged for the body
His slain son
The corpse mangled
Trojan women wailed
For their dead hero
Later in battle
Goddess guided the arrow
Of craven Paris
Pierced the heel
Of invulnerable warrior
The epic tale
Told in tesserae
Rarest mosaic
Just now found
A British farm
Feasting room of
Roman villa
Though long gone
We sing the songs
Of bygone times
When hubris brought
Epic warriors
To tragic ends
The finest men
Slain to revenge
Honor of all Greece
For sake of a slut
And her lover
