Two Irish lads
My Flynn ancestors
Fled to Canada
Worked the quarries
Down through
New Hampshire
Found their way
To Cape Ann
In the pits
Lanesville and Rockport
Boarded in Annisquam
Built the breakwater
Chiseled like steel
Brawny sinewed men
Grandad James Fynn
Apprentice blacksmith
Life as quarryman
Was not to be
Hotel and tavern
Gloucester depot
Next to Rhumb Line
Married a Nugent
Mom was born on
Kitchen table
Moved to Boston
When Gloucester went dry
Bar in Scollay Square
Never closed
During prohibition
With Uncle Arthur
Later a judge
In fleet Pierce Arrow
Ran Canadian whiskey
Through Smuggler’s Notch
Mom made deliveries
After school
