Sirens

Ulysess Just Wanted To Listen

By: - Dec 01, 2015

Sirens

Like brave Ulysses
Voyage home
Youth squandered in Troy
Folly of glory
Should I plug my ears
Like the men
Tied to the mast
Of public opinion
Passing rugged shore
Dangerous shoals
Lured in by
Siren song of
Sound advice
Heard it all
How better to obey
Cosa nostra
Task at hand
Writing verse
Total gonzo
Better or worse
Read poets
Better than myself
The dead ones
Who really count
Writhing against ropes
Driven mad by mentors
Do this or that
Better if you
This was a good one
That was not
Then why and why and why
Basta I cry
Not like you
Hard enough in
My own skin
Leathered with age
Finally cut down
Friends at their oars
Never heard
Deafening silence
Gliding past sirens
Head music
Driving me mad
Taunting muse
Of self we hear
Playing my song
Not dancing to
Your tune
