Straitsmouth Light 2
By the Sea in Winter
By: Melissa Cummings - Dec 19, 2015
Straitsmouth Light 2
Wire traps thick
with sea weed
with smell
resting on the wall
for winter
The gardener
in his sticker full
wagon
ERNESTINA
NO FREE LUNCH FOR
GLOUCESTER CROSSING
the funny page
of the paper
in his left hand
a bite in his right
pizza in his lap
The sea steady
from the north west
comberless
A three foot bush
growing right through
a trap spreading branches
out sides and top
like the fawn grasses
out of the stone wall
across the street
Rose hip hedge
blackened by the season
Three white vans
with ladders
No dogs?
I took them
for a walk
earlier
Apollo is in Florida!
Did Phil drive?
Nope
Flew with Apollo
in a bag
Beside him?
Yep
You didn't go
I hate the heat
Believe it or not
I like this weather
No more to say
Your dogs are cold
They need to move
You have to wear shorts!
So does Richard
It's beautiful!
More next week!
It will never stop!
A sixty foot river
in Sheeps Pasture
May be the reason
for the alternate path
Two tiny waterfalls
splashing
over a boulder
The cloudy pit
across Johnson Road
is clear black
after a rain
Water flowing
right right left
Between two clumps
of evergreen
Straitsmouth Light
Water flowing
right left left
Miniature rain drops
barely there
have to stop bend
peer through the bushes
check the surface
of the pit at the top
of Pigeon Hill Street
La Gordita Rosa
turns at each crossway
Par alla?
Usually not
El Gringo se
camina camina
El viejito
tracks at my heel
toward the north westerly
sea bearing combers
from the strip of pink
at the horizon
washing
through the gap
