Holiday on Ice
By: Charles Giuliano - Dec 19, 2019
Holiday on Ice
Frost on the windshield
Scrape rattle and roll
Bone snapping cold
Some eight degrees
Last minute errands
Thinking warm thoughts
Christmas next week
Roasting ducks
Bowl of nuts
Stockings stuffed
Presents sent long ago
Obsessive compulsion
That holiday cheer
Goodwill to all
Much harder now
Not so merry
The daily gloom
Looming over us
Tweets and updates
Perverse season’s greetings
Hard to stay focused
Love thy neighbor
As thyself
Easier said than done
Time of plague
Black death of the soul
Democracy on trial
Judge with eyes wide open
No blind justice need apply
All hail the chief
More to deplore than hate
Just for the moment set aside
After New Year to decide
Away in the manger
Lion lies with lamb
No screed needed
At least not for now
Shoulder arms
Sit in peace
Even as a truce
Hands around the table
Heads bowed in silence
Thanks to all our loved ones
Fresh daily bread
Land of milk and honey
Sustenance of life
Apology to those we offend
Let’s not just pretend
A nation divided against itself
Cannot stand
Blind hope for peace
To all a good night
