Festival of New Plays

This spring, theater companies around Wisconsin are launching World Premiere Wisconsin, a statewide festival celebrating new plays and musicals that has been years in the making.  We have 52 participating theaters along with festival partner Ten Chimneys. Quite the undertaking as we look to put new plays back at the center of our work post-pandemic.

Some highlights of the festival include the world premieres of….

• Lloyd Suh’s The Heart Sellers at Milwaukee Repertory Theater (February 7 – March 19, 2023)
• Lauren Gunderson’s Artemisia at Forward Theater Company (April 13-30, 2023)
• Kristin Idaszak’s Tidy at Renaissance Theaterworks (March 24-April 16, 2023)
• Bill Cain’s God’s Spies at Next Act Theatre (April 27-May 21, 2023)
• Jennifer Blackmer’s I Carry Your Heart with Me at Third Avenue Playhouse (May 12-28, 2023)
• Sean Grennan’s A Rock Sails By at Peninsula Players (June 13-July 2, 2023)
• Shining in Misery at Capital City Theatre (February 23-March 5, 2023)
• Hoops adapted by Eliana Pipes with original music by B~Free at Milwaukee Chamber Theatre (March 10-April 2, 2023)
• Alice Austin’s The Gracious Sisters at First Stage (May 5-21, 2023)

We would love to welcome you to Wisconsin for any or all of the World Premiere Wisconsin productions. If you have never been to Wisconsin, now is your chance. It is a beautiful state with welcoming people and an artistic community that is doing great things. Not to mention, National Geographic just listed Milwaukee as one of the best places to visit in the world in 2023.
