Blue Heron Gallery Online, a virtual online art gallery, will be presenting the art of Boston artist Peter McGrath beginning at noon on Friday, February 12, 2021.  The show, appearing on www.blueherongallery.online, will feature both sculptures and paintings, and present the artist in photographs and his Artist Statement.

Artist McGrath was educated at the Art Institute of Boston at Leslie College.  After working at a marble quarry in Vermont, he turned to sculpture as his artistic strength, working with both stone and clay.  However, his art has grown over the years to include both painting and the evolution of his sculpturing into the use of exotic woods in both whimsical and practical applications.

The show will present a variety of his work that includes paintings and showcasing his work with wood.  Each piece will be available for purchase directly from the show online, which runs through March 13.  Pieces purchased will be shipped to the buyers.

A recent transplant to North Adams by way of a small Daoist temple in central China, Michael McGrath saw an opportunity to serve the ever expanding artist community in the northern Berkshires by offering an online art gallery for both showing and selling their work.  With sticks-and-bricks galleries shut down by Covid-19 and quarantine, artists had no outlet for their work, and the need for a safe yet full-featured venue arose.

The virtual gallery’s first show, “Still Standing Standing Still,” featuring North Adams artist Galen Cheney, concluded on February 11, after a successful thirty days of visitor traffic from 34 states in the US, and 21 countries from all over the world, that averaged nearly 90 people per day viewing her art. That resulted in sales of the work.

Gallery shows are presently booked through May, 2021, and news of future shows is regularly updated on the gallery website, www.blueherongallery.online.

The gallery is the creation and work of Michael McGrath, a former web designer and developer who earned Webby Award recognition for work in 2005.

McGrath also offers support services to artists through the gallery, including website design and development, and recently launched a new website he developed for first show feature artist Galen Cheney - www.galencheney.com

The February featured artist, Peter McGrath, is his younger brother.
