Jazz in the Berkshires
Update on Altered Programming
By: Ed Bride - Apr 30, 2020
Dear Jazz Friends,
If you’re a regular visitor to our web site, you already know most of what we’re announcing in this note. First and foremost, the coronavirus pandemic has forced the cancellation of the Berkshire Gateway Jazz Weekend, which was scheduled for June 12-14. Circumstances do not allow re-scheduling, so there won’t be a Gateway festival this year.
We had a terrific lineup, and will either present them next year or perhaps individually in other settings between now and then. The requirement for (and good sense of) social distancing limits our options, and would likely impact audiences’ comfort. So, please stay tuned.
On the more positive front, Chamber Music America has given us a generous grant to present the marvelous flutist Andrea Brachfeld and her Insight trio. Originally scheduled for April 25, that event will now be held on September 25 at Saint James Place, Great Barrington, Mass., where we had our first program last November.
We have many other exciting plans, but for now, are playing it cautiously, following the guidance of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the advice of other cultural leaders in the Berkshires.
As you can appreciate, our ability to raise sponsorship support and other funding is limited by the isolation. If you enjoy what we have been bringing to the Berkshires and look forward to more, or simply want to help, we will appreciate donations in any amount. There is a Donation button on our home page, as well as information if you’d prefer to send a check.
Thank you for your support. Stay safe, listen to music online or whatever your medium is.
And please keep up to date by visiting our web site or following us on Twitter (@BerksJazz) or Facebook (BerkshiresJazz.org).
We look forward to seeing you when we do resume programming, hopefully in time for our third annual Berkshire Jazz Showcase on July 11.
