Five Free Performances

The Clark Art Institute debuts a five-part outdoor concert series this summer. The Clark presents Hermanos Gutiérrez on June 28, Joe Henry on July 5, Makaya McCraven on July 12, Darlingside on July 19, and Kathleen Edwards on August 8. All performances are free and take place at 6 pm near the Reflecting Pool. Bring a picnic and your own seating. For more information, visit clarkart.edu/events.

Hermanos Gutiérrez
Wednesday, June 28
Evoking expansive plains and rough wildernesses, guitar duo Hermanos Gutiérrez kick off the concert series. Almost painterly in their mastery of their instruments, Hermanos Gutiérrez transports their audiences to the wilds of Italian Westerns and cancioneros.

Joe Henry
Wednesday, July 5
Grammy-award winning musician and troubadour Joe Henry performs his singular style of folk and Americana. Brimming with a tenderness for the complexities of New England life, Henry’s lyrics will resonate over the Clark’s forested landscape.

Makaya McCraven
Wednesday, July 12
Jazz drummer and composer Makaya McCraven engages with the histories of jazz and hip-hop, working through a litany of percussion. Taking you to the brink of experimentation and back again, the songs tell the sonic stories of our times.

Darlingside
Wednesday, July 19
It’s a homecoming for local favorites Darlingside, formed in the early 2000s when the band members were students at Williams College. Darlingside has long been praised for their harmonies and intelligent songwriting, described by NPR as “exquisitely-arranged, literary-minded, baroque folk-pop.” Dynamic and charming, they are a live-performance favorite.

Kathleen Edwards
Tuesday, August 8
Kathleen Edwards cultivates a political worldview through her songwriting, sympathetically articulating the triumphs and heartbreaks of human experience. This evening of folk-rock music is colored by the power and emotion in Edwards’ vocals.
