Greetings from MASS MoCA
Thanksgiving Message
By: MoCA - Nov 26, 2020
In a year like no other, we're as grateful as ever for you, our art-loving community near and far. Thank you for your continued support, words of encouragement, and mask-covered smiles — we wouldn't be here without you.
MASS MoCA rests on homelands of the Wabanaki, a confederacy of the Micmac, Maliseet, Passamaquoddy, Penobscot, and Abenaki Nations, also known as “the people of the Dawnland,” and Mohican people, or Muh-he-con-neok ("people of the waters that are never still"). Since the forcible relocation of Native Americans to reservations in the 1800s, most descendants of the Mohican tribe now reside in Wisconsin and are known as the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican Nation, while the Wabanaki — once indigenous to the lands of contemporary Maine, Vermont, northwestern Massachusetts, and parts of Canada — continue to reside in these areas. We pay honor and respect to their ancestors past and present as we commit to building a more inclusive and equitable space for all.
