Barrington Stage Company (BSC), announces Summer 2022 Events with Broadway’s Best at the Boyd-Quinson Stage and the St. Germain Stage at the Sydelle and Lee Blatt Performing Arts Center.

The Chinese Lady produced by Ma Yi Theater Company and The Public Theatre has arrived in New York.  This production was created for its world premiere by The Barrington Stage Company and Ma Yi. Written by Lloyd Sun, Ralph B. Pena directs.  Women’s history month is the occasion for this mounting.

During the dead of winter, the arts in Pittsfield come to life with a festival. This is the 11th year of the annual 10x10 New Play Festival at Barrington Stage Company. The works were selected from some 200 plus submissions many of which trumped Trump.

Barrington Stage Company, will produce a 2022 season that will feature two Tony Award-winning musicals, a Pulitzer Prize-winning play, four world premieres and one of the true absurdist masterpieces of 20th century theatre. The 2022 season marks Julianne Boyd’s final season as Artistic Director prior to her retirement at the end of September.

Written by Shirley Edgerton and Felicia Robertson and directed by Shirley Edgerton and Ted Thomas, Ain’t I A Woman tells the stories of unsung African American heroines. Members of the Women of Color Giving Circle, Rites of Passage and Empowerment program, Youth Alive and other community members perform. Wanda Houston is the guest artist, telling the story and singing the songs of Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald.  

Barrington Stage Company announces the 10-minute plays and casting for the 11th Annual 10X10 New Play Festival, part of the 2022 10X10 Upstreet Arts Festival.   

The big winners of the Berkies were A Crossing: A Dance Musical, presented by Barrington Stage Company, which won the Sally and Robert Sugarman Award for a World Premier of a New Work as well as many acting and design awards, and Nina Simone: Four Women, presented by the Berkshire Theatre Group. 

In 1995 Julianne Boyd co-founded Barrington Stage company producing sparsely attended but critically well received shows in a high school auditorium in Sheffield. In 2005 the company purchased and renovated a formed vaudeville house in Pittsfield. Coping with Covid-19 Boyd mounted a successful 2021 season. With the company is good shape, citing age, she is passing the reins to new leadership. In December she turns 77. She will stay on through the search and transition for a new artistic director.

Barrington Stage Company will offer a Playwriting Workshop for Veterans under the direction of Barrington Stage Associate Artist and Award-Winning Playwright Mark St. Germain. In this 4-class seminar, students will explore the fundamental craft of playwriting with the goal of every student completing a ten-minute play. The culmination on the fourth and final day of class will be a rehearsal and performance by professional actors.

While focused on a group of migrants this is the story of all of us. It conveys an America rooted in exclusion, violence and intolerance. This is a stunning new musical for all Americans.

Barrington Stage Company (BSC),welcomes Tony and Emmy Award winner Billy Crystal in a presentation of a new musical in development, Mr. Saturday Night, on the Boyd-Quinson Stage (30 Union Street) for nine performances. A new musical comedy, Mr. Saturday Night is about one man’s meteoric rise to the middle. The musical is a work in development and will be presented with minimal set and costume pieces.  

WAM Theatre to present the US premiere of KAMLOOPA: AN INDIGENOUS MATRIARCH STORY by Kim Senklip Harvey, winner of Canada’s prestigious Governor General’s Award for English Language Drama, directed by Estefanía Fadul (WAM’s Native Gardens, The Oregon Trail). COVID safe live performances of this new comedy, will be presented at Shakespeare & Company’s Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre in Lenox.

The renowned playwright, Mark Saint Germain. has published his first non theatrical book. A true story, Walking Evil, is a hilarious account of the author's epic battle with his wife's dog Evie. Named Evil by St. Germain the hellhound is in league with the devil. The cur destroys everything in sight including a thirty five year marriage. Clearly not a work of fiction you can't make up such an incredible and riveting story. Indeed the devil is in the details of this compelling book.

Casting announced for the World Premiere productions of Boca by Jessica Provenz (July 30-August 29 at the BSC Production Center, 34 Laurel Street) and Sister Sorry by Alec Wilkinson (August 13-29 at the Boyd-Quinson Stage, 30 Union Street)

Barrington Stage Company (BSC) announces extensions for the first four productions of the theatre’s 2021 season: Who Could Ask for Anything More? The Songs of George Gershwin, Chester Bailey, Eleanor and Boca.

How theater is presented this summer continues to expand. TheaterWorks in Hartford, West Hartford’s Playhouse on Park and Ridgefield’s Thrown Stone Theater are exploring what are called “site-specific” productions – where the production’s content has a relationship to the site where it is performed.

Barrington Stage Company (BSC), announces that a second performance has been scheduled for Aaron Tveit Live! In Concert on Monday, July 19 at 8:00pm. The encore performance has been scheduled to accommodate worldwide audience demand after tickets for BSC’s Gala performance of Aaron Tveit Live! on Sunday, July 18 quickly sold out.

Get Your Pink Hands Off Me Sucka and Give Me Back by Daniella De Jesús, is the Grand Prize winner of the 2021 Bonnie and Terry Burman New Play Award. Directed by Taylor Reynolds it will be presented June 4-6, 2021.

Barrington Stage Company has been approved for a $30,000 Grants for Arts Projects from the National Endowment for the Arts. This project will support a World Premiere production of The Supadupa Kid, a new musical based on the children's book of the same name by local Pittsfield author Ty Allan Jackson. 

The annual mid winter 10X10 New Play Festival new play festival is back for its tenth year. This time virtual from Barrington Stage Company in Pittsfield. The plays are generally fun. Ones your don't care for are gone in ten minutes and there are nine more to consider. There are always hits and misses and it's fun to participate and debate.

Barrington Stage Company (BSC), is pleased to announce the first round of Spark Grants of $2,500 each to eleven artists with whom Barrington Stage Company has either collaborated with on past work or looks forward to collaborating with in the future. Each recipient was awarded the grant under the single condition that the money be used to spark the artist’s creativity.

 Barrington Stage Company (BSC), announces the 2020 Associate Artists – lighting designer David Lander, director/choreographer Jeffrey Page and actress Alysha Umphress.

Barrington Stage Company will present a free virtual reading of The Supadupa Kid 2: Move, the action/superhero book by Pittsfield-based author Ty Allan Jackson. The reading will feature a cast of local youth and parents from the Berkshires and NY State Capital Region. Julianne Boyd will direct the reading, which will begin streaming free on December 3. 

Berkshire Theatre Group announcees a gift of just over $1 million dollars from the family of the late Mary Anne Gross in honor of her lifetime love of both theatre and the Berkshires

Mark St Germain's Typhoid Mary will be filmed in advance with the cast performing remotely. It will be available to stream on October 30 & 31 at 7:30 pm ET. The ever more timely play premiered at Barrington Stage Company in 2018.
